Just a quick note to let other website developers know that 1and1.com appears to be having problems with their email services on a regular basis. I can only speak of their hosting on Windows servers only. The specific problems with their email service are:

1. Messages sent TO an email address that belongs to the hosted domain are not forwarded to another email address. No error to the sender that their email was not delivered. No error to the recipient than an email could not be forwarded to them. The email just sits until the mailbox overflows.

2. Messages sent FROM an email address that belongs to the hosted domain are not reaching the recepient, and neither sender or receiver are notified or a problem.

3. 1and1.com service staff says everything is working and refuse to look into the problem.
