A customer of mine has large vbuletin forum and after the reparing the forum skin for them I was asked to find the web hosting solution for them and what I currently have is hostgator. Shared web hosting. But I suppose that will not be good enough. And start looking for their VPS.
Not so much reviews about hostgator VPS over there and I have doubts:
to go with HG or chose the one fron traditional providers like serverpoint or vpsland is?

I know one of them i.e. serverpoint, but don't have any experience. You can ask for uptime, SLA and support before hosting.

I think that for the large forum you might need dedicated server (I recommend webcs.com) and for the VPS I can recommend you hostingsource.com. But do not use shared account again for that
