Rep Power: 2 | Reseller or VPS to get started? Hello!
Can you please share your opinion what is the easiest way to get started with own web hosting business?
Reseller or VPS?
some companies offer managed VPS - is it enough to have nothing to worry about with VPS to get started?
Reseller? Do they limit CPU as on VPS? |

Rep Power: 0 | It really depends on your budget and how much control you would like. When we first started, we only had a reseller account with someone, but that was way before VPS' were really an option. In retrospect I would have much rather went the route of VPS as long as it was within the budget.
With most reseller accounts you are placed on a shared server, have limited or no ssh access, and can't install anything custom if you would like. With a VPS you will have full root access to the machine and can install anything you like, as long as it isn't a ToS violation and as long as it is something compatible or wont otherwise interfere with the installed control panel you have.
In regards to the "managed" aspect of it, you will need to get a good definition from the company as to what they provide as "managed". If you are comfortable handling the admin of the box, then it shouldn't matter much unless they are charging you a lot extra for it. If your not comfortable handling the admin of it, then find out exactly what services they will provide.
In regards to CPU resources, most VPS places give you a guaranteed amount of resources and usually give you another pool of resources that your VPS can use if needed and available. With most reseller accounts you will be limited by whatever their ToS states is acceptable. Most hosts limit around 20% of CPU.
So all-in-all VPS would be the nicest option IMO.
Hope that helps. |

Rep Power: 2 | Thank you mate.
Which web hosting companies can you offer for VPS?
Is HostV.com's VPS good option? ( http://hostv.com/virtual.shtml)
What are your suggestions for VPS companies? |

Rep Power: 3 | I would recommend you atleast a VPS, if you are serious about what you are planing to do. I dont think you would need a managed server. if you cant/dont want to manage the server yourself, hosting is not your cup of tea. The idea is to have complete control over your server (reseller wont let you) and be there for any kind of help for your customers.
Find a quality VPS host, cheap but excellent network and hardware. |

Rep Power: 0 | I personally like the VPS option because of the dedicated server features you receive (root access). However you'll often find reseller plans provide consumers with excellent tools to run a hosting business (website templates, support system, billing software, FAQ features, etc. - all of which are typically not included with VPS plans).
FindMyHost recently tested http://www.HostV.com via the Approved Host testing program and were pleased with the results. Each of the three plans include a long list of features and additional scripts, plug ins and features. They are also stacked with the powerful Virtuozzo and cPanel, both which seem to be the most stable setup.
Here are three other VPS hosts that we have tested and recommend: http://www.zipservers.com/vps.shtml http://www.gate.com http://www.webintellects.com |

Rep Power: 0 | Webintellects are one of the pioneer's in VPS.
A little background on the other two:
Gate.com is owned by one of the largest hosting companies in the business 'Hostway.com'.
ZipServers.com, predominantly known for their high level managed services with dedicated services have now branched out and offering these services within the VPS section......so its a win win for everyone. |

Rep Power: 2 | I would like to give an advice if you would someday become a reseller.
Try to look through as many offerings as you can -this would be helpful for making correct choise of a company to resell from.
I would recommend you looking up plans of such company as Ahosting.biz - as for me this might be good reselling provider in terms of price/quality ratio.\
Good luck in you business! |

Going for reseller may be tricky sometimes as the reseller hosting is not always that reliable - technically, as the VPS could be. But it is all depending on the model you have adopted and the temps of development you are following.
Good Luck |

Rep Power: 1 | fcolor, right here. VPS looks like the best deal. You know that nowadays companies provide VPS fopr the different locations and that mean that your web hosting servicesa can be present in the different countries that can made you more successful. I think that companies like Santrex.net, offering VPS solutions in different regions (US and EU) can be the best unexpensive way to start with. |

Rep Power: 0 | Perhaps you should maybe look into a dedicated server, web hosting market is a very competitive market and if you do not want to put a decent budget or an investment on a server, perhaps this is the wrong market. |

Rep Power: 3 | Reselling packages provide you having multiple accounts and many other useful features. I think reselling is a good way to start.
As for recommendations, I can suggest looking up reseller plans from sibername.com. This company provides nice services which include doamin names.
Good luck in your search! |

Rep Power: 0 | I would say VPS, Resellers are old school you hardly get any access to mange how you want to run it. Most likely as a VPS owner you can do what ever you want and offers resellers as well. |
