Rep Power: 5 | If you are a green horn, star from Linux VPS deal that is traditionally cheaper than Windows and it doesn't demands much excperience. And one more thing the company that you will use it must have a qualified staff, it can be for instance gazzin.com, they provide nice Linux VPS deals on deifferent OSs. |

Rep Power: 4 | Yeah, Linux is cheaper, but your choice really depends on the applications you are going to host. You know, on windows platform you will be able to host all the existing applications, but on Linux only definite ones. As for the company choice, check out serverpoint.com as its work based on quality and they offer many useful features in their VPS plans. |

Rep Power: 5 | This will be according to the script and site type. Linux is cheaper than Windows. So for any static , or non MS product like PHP MYSQL etc go for linux. otherwise using asp , .net mssql then go for windows |

Rep Power: 6 | I second Gazzin.com, VPS allowing BURSTABLE RAM allows customers to utilized RAM that are available on the system when the VPS itself requires unexpected RAM usage.
Their extras are also useful to run hosting services smoothly. |

Rep Power: 5 | The thing is that it mainly depends on the applications you are going to host. I suggest you to look at webintellects.com Windows and Linux VPS hosting offers and then, if you like their offers, contact its well-trained support staff and ask them about your choice, they will offer you the configuration you need. |

Rep Power: 4 | As it turned out that it will be more productive to contact the companies sales representative and discuss everything you may need and what you get and pay for. I am sure that 4java will meet all your expectations on favorable terms. They offer a wide range of VPS hosting plans. |

Rep Power: 6 | Linux is slightly cheaper, but if you are totally new to Linux, it will bnot be easy to manage. Still, if you are having PHP applications, better to go for Linux with a control panel you are comfortable with and managed services from host. Server management can cost you a lot if you need a fully managed server. So make sure that you know the requirements well before buying a server. |

Rep Power: 3 | Better question is which virtualization platform did you plan to use for VPS. If you want Windows VPS than you need to find companys with Hyper-V and if you want Linux you need XEN virtualization. After that you can make decide which OS to use. If you start with Administration than best option is Windows Server than Linux, if you have expirience with Linux you can choose CentOS and configure services which you need.

Rep Power: 3 | I would recommend you windows vps because Windows can offer you remote desktop access. This is easier for the less knowledgeable administrators of sites considering for a Linux VPS to be altered and updated one must know the proper text based commands. Windows offers the advantage of a Remote Desktop access which can keep you completely in control and fully aware of what you are editing on your VPS. This makes the management of your VPS much easier. |

Rep Power: 0 | The selection between a Windows or Linux platform will depend on the scripts, applications that you wish to run on your website.
Scripts like asp.net are supported only by Windows and hence if your website need that, you will have to select a Windows platform.
PHP, html etc are supported by both Linux as well as Windows.
Comparing between the two, Linux is considered to be more secure and stable. Also, Linux being an open source, is definately economical.. but when it comes to selection between the two, make sure what your website requirements are. |

Rep Power: 5 | Choosing the Server Operating system depends upon the applications used to built your website. If you have a website built in asp, asp.net or MS-SQL or you are willing to use any Microsoft application like ColdFusion or any other, you will have to opt for a Windows VPS. If you have a website built in PHP or HTML, than you can opt for a Linux VPS. Windows server is a bit costly then Linux, because Windows is a licensed OS and the some of the applications supported on Windows like MS-SQL Standard or Enterprise edition needs licensing too whereas Linux is open source, so its OS, database and various other applications are free to use. |
