Meta Tag Considerations

Though most largest search engines do not 'spider' the keyword Meta Tags on your page, and in some cases ignore these completely, the use of Meta Tags on your page still serves an important purpose. There are literally hundreds, even thousands of smaller search engines scattered all across the Internet. Whilst the bigger engines tend to 'spider' whole pages instead and obtain their results from that, these smaller search engines don't have as much physical space to work with and must do things differently. It is in these particular engines you will find that Meta Tags are still very important.

It is true that many search engines have stopped indexing or placing high relevancy on meta tag keywords - but all sites should use them. Don't place too much emphasis on using meta tag keywords as your SEO strategy but everything you do for your site will help. So why not use them? Just don't lose sleep over it.

Yes many search engine has stop indexing but still there are thousands of small search engines left and can therefore help increase traffic to your Web site so why not use them.

These thousands of small search engines together get a share of less than 1% market. Most of them are simply spammers or work as a meta search, getting their results from google itself. If you analyse your logs, you can see they bring in practically nothing. Its more than enough to concentrate on the big 3. A little bit of improvement in G serps can be better than being a favorite of the smaller thousands.

BTW, meta description can be helpful, as google might use that along with the link. It may not be a bad idea to have a good description.
